Break Time (Moon Void of Course)
Every two days or so, the Moon goes Void of Course. These are natural pauses in the emotional cycle and are best used for editing, researching, idea generating, reading, and napping.
- Friday, Dec. 18 - Morning
- Tuesday, Dec. 22 - All Day
- Thursday, Dec. 24 - Afternoon
Emotional Weather (Lunar Transits)
Later this afternoon through Sunday morning, the Moon will be in Aries. Aries is the sign of heroic epics, war stories, and adventure stories. It is the part of us that needs to dive into the unknown and be brave. This weekend is a good time to do something new that scares you. Tell a story in a genre you've never attempted before. Reach out to an expert in something you want to write about and ask them for an interview. Better yet, become your own expert in something you've been too afraid to try.
Sunday afternoon through Tuesday evening, the Moon will be in Taurus. Taurus is the sign of Tolkein-esque fantasy, lyrical poetry, and food writing. After Aries' adventures, start off the week by attending to the senses. Fill your house with the smell of warm bread. Buy an indulgent coffee drink. Take some time on your lunch break to draw your surroundings or visit an art gallery. After you've spent some time with your senses in the real world, return to your current WIP and see if can't bring that sensuality to what you're writing. Or, take a page out of George RR Martin's book and describe the food your characters are eating.
Tuesday evening through Thursday, the Moon will be in Gemini. Gemini is the sign most directly connected to writing, but it is also the part of us that is infinitely curious and wants to know about everything. Pay attention to what face of the sign of the twins you're wearing today. Do you want to bury yourself in research? Do you want to get out in the world and see things? Do you feel like you can write forever? If you can follow these impulses, do. There will be plenty of time to ground and come back to yourself this weekend.
Swiftly Moving Planets (Personal Planet Transits)
On Monday, the Sun moves into Capricorn, and we celebrate the Winter Solstice. Capricorn's drive fuels the mad rush to set ambitious New Year's resolutions. (And the Sun's move into I-am-what-I-am Aquarius fuels the mad rush to abandon them by the end of January!) Before you get swept up in the tide of achievement, stop to check in with yourself. The change of seasons is a good time to reflect on how your writing practice changes with the cycle of the year. Are the cold, dark days of winter peaking writing season for you, or do you prefer to put down your pen and sit by the fire with someone else's book? Does the darkness change your mood--and your voice? What does success mean for you, anyway?
For best results, read for your ascendant/rising sign. If you don't know your ascendant, you can calculate it here.
Aries With the Moon Void of Course three times during the day this week, this is a time to slow down and get some rest. With Mercury and Pluto in your House of Career this week, you'll continue to think about reforming your career, but now is a time for thought more than action, even if on Sunday you find yourself having a hard time reconciling who you are with what you do. Venus the planet of relationships and art will team up with jovial Jupiter on Thursday bringing an opportunity for some much needed healing through a piece of art or someone close to you--if you keep your eyes open and known where to look.
Taurus You have been in a more philosophical mood than usually lately, Taurus, and with the Moon Void of Course three times during the day this week, this is a good time to indulge in some gentle musing. Take some time on Thursday to spend some playful time with the people you're close to: Venus and Jupiter are teaming up to bring you a magical evening.
Gemini If you have been preoccupied lately with things that are outside your control, this train of thought is likely to continue this week. You have the potential, though, to have a healing night at home on Thursday, which should give you a much needed break.
Cancer You have been preoccupied with your relationships lately, and with Mercury in your House of Long Term Relationships, the mental storm is not scheduled to break this week. If you can put your thoughts aside on Thursday, though, you'll find a nice window for a playful writing session.
Leo For the past few weeks you have been working hard on reforming your routine, and this work will serve you well this week when the Moon goes Void of Course three times this week, encouraging you to focus on things that are already part of your routine. Sunday may be the one exception, when your writing routine has the potential to conflict with Uranus in your House of Adventures encouraging you innovate and explore.
Virgo You may be finding yourself wondering if your recent obsession with creative play is going too far this week, Virgo, but my advice remains the same--take advantage of it while you can! Especially with the Moon Void of Course three times during the day this week. If you can hold out until Thursday before you get serious about your writing, Venus and Jupiter will team up to deliver a phenomenal writing session, one in which you really feel like you sound like yourself.
Libra Mercury in your House of Deep Self has been urging you to do some serious shadow work for the past few weeks, Libra, and this week is no exception. With the Moon Void of Course three times this week, you would be advised to get as much journaling and introspection in as you can. If you do this, you'll be much clearer about who you are and what you're really capable of. Thursday would be a good day to perform a ritual in which you say goodbye to your false selves and embrace who you know you really are.
Scorpio You have been a thinking and writing machine for the past few weeks, Scorpio, and this week will be no exception. You may have a brief interruption on Sunday when Mercury forms a tense aspect to Uranus in your House of Daily Grind, but by Thursday Venus and Jupiter will team up to encourage you to think big about what you're capable of in the coming year.
Sagittarius You have been thinking a lot about money lately, Sag, and by Sunday you'll sick of it when Uranus in your House of Creativity begs you to stop fretting and go out and play. You would do well to listen. With the Moon Void of Course three times this week, it's time to give it a rest.
Capricorn You've been thinking about yourself quite a bit the past few weeks, Capricorn. On Sunday you'll be encouraged to think even deeper when Mercury in your House of Persona conflicts with Uranus in your House of Deep Self. Nothing is more important for Capricorn than integrity, and it's essential that you are careful to make sure your image reflects your true self. On Thursday you may be inspired to plan some future adventures, and you'll want to be sure these are adventures you'll actually want to participate in.
Aquarius You have been thinking quite a bit about loss, lately, Aquarius, and this week will be no exception, but you have been gathering some hard-earned wisdom over the past few years. On Sunday, you may be inspired by Uranus in your House of Writing to write about some of the things you've learned. It will not be easy, but if you can find it in yourself to do it, you may be surprised by what you say. If you're planning to party on Thursday night, look sharp: All eyes--wink, wink--will be on you.
Pisces You have been goal oriented lately, Pisces, and this trend isn't about to change. Though, on Sunday, Uranus in your House of Resources may challenge you to reform how you think about what you're capable of if you want to meet your goals. Thursday brings a golden opportunity to expand your mind through an interaction with someone you're close to. If you can open your heart, the encounter will bring you enough inspiration and warm fuzzies to keep you going for the rest of the year.
